The Jade Buddha of Anshan in Liaoning District
The city and prefecture Anshan (Saddle Mountain) is located in the centre of Liaoning District, on the Liaodong Peninsula. It has a population of approximately 3.6 million.
The largest Buddha statue made of jade in the world, the Anshan Jade Buddha, was found in the nearby town Xiuyan, known as “hometown of jade”, in July 1960. It is located in the Dongshan Scenic Reserve.
The statue was sculpted from a piece of jade 7.95 meters high, 6.88 meters wide, 4.10 meters thick, weighing 260.76 tons.
Known as the “Pearl of the Northeast”, another major tourist draw is the mountain range Qian Shan (Thousands of Mountains).
Natural hot springs in Anshan have been developed into several bath houses and medical treatement centers such as Tanggangzi Spring.
